Laura Icken is counsel in the Entertainment Group at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, advising clients on transactional matters across a variety of industries, including scripted film & television, production, distribution, music and video games.
Prior to joining Frankfurt Kurnit, Ms. Icken served as a Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs to the scripted television team at ViacomCBS (Nickelodeon and Awesomeness), where she negotiated and drafted writer, talent, option and purchase, director, production, event, music and marketing agreements.
She advises clients including Hollywood studios, production, video game and entertainment companies. She handles both scripted and unscripted entertainment and commercial transactions, including development, option, writer and talent contracts, production service, marketing and advertising, games, contests, and commercial/IT agreements. She has most recently been Senior Counsel/Consultant to the Warner Bros. theatrical marketing and distribution group.
Ms. Icken began her career at New York law firms handling corporate transactions, and branched out into entertainment, in New York, California and Europe. Her past positions at Fox, Disney and Playboy included development, production and distribution work as well as talent, contests and sweepstakes, compliance, privacy and other matters. She also spent 3 years as a legal Director at Yahoo! overseeing properties such as Yahoo! games, sports, music, politics, entertainment, content licensing and the development of a series with Fox.
Ms. Icken earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center as well as an MSFS from the Georgetown School of Foreign Service. She speaks several languages, including French and German and some Spanish, and is admitted to practice in both New York and California.
