Joshua Goldman brings extensive trial and appellate court experience to his complex litigation practice. As an Associate in the firm’s Litigation department, Josh represents clients across diverse, high-stakes matters, from intellectual property disputes to sensitive investigations. Josh is a skilled brief writer – he has authored numerous amicus curiae briefs to the United States Supreme Court, and merits and amicus briefs to state and federal courts of appeals. Additionally, Josh has developed a notable First Amendment practice, representing clients whose constitutional rights have been restricted by government entities. He helped secure preliminary injunctive relief for an LGBTQ+ pride organization facing restrictions on their speech rights and represented the country’s largest teachers’ union in challenging state “divisive concepts” laws around the country.
His broader civil rights commitment extends to his robust pro bono practice, which includes achieving a landmark summary judgment victory in a healthcare discrimination case involving transgender rights. Josh also serves on the LGBTQ Rights Committee of the New York City Bar Association, and served as a mentor with The Appellate Project (TAP).
Prior to joining Frankfurt Kurnit, Josh was a litigation associate at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. Between those stints, Josh was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable O. Rogeriee Thompson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Denise J. Casper of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts Josh is admitted to the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the First and Tenth Circuits.
