Everything You Always Wanted to Know About #Hashtags* *But Were Afraid to Ask
Hashtags have revolutionized how we communicate and have become an important component of today's advertising campaigns. They help advertisers and consumers categorize posts, locate information, share content, and disclose information to readers. But hashtags also create legal risk. If used incorrectly, they can violate state and federal advertising laws or infringe third-party rights. What are the best practices for hashtag use? How do you avoid the legal traps? On January 27th, Frankfurt Kurnit's Jeffrey A. Greenbaum and Hannah Taylor will present all the legal do's and don'ts of hashtag use. Our complimentary CLE breakfast presentation will cover the following topics:
- • how marketers use hashtags today
- • when do hashtags create advertising claims
- • applying FTC rules to hashtag use
- • using hashtags to make legal disclosures
- • avoiding IP claims when using hashtags
- • hashtags as trademarks
- • how hashtags become "bashtags"
- • real-world cases and recent litigation examples
- • and much more
