Frankfurt Kurnit Advises Medstar in Sale of Forensic Files True Crime Television Catalog
Content Partners, LLC, a leading independent owner of major studio-distributed films and television shows, has acquired from Medstar Television 400 Forensic Files episodes, and international distribution rights to Forensic Files II. Created by Paul Dowling, the President and CEO of Frankfurt Kurnit client Medstar Television, Forensic Files is a pioneer of true crime television. The series aired from 1996—2011 on TLC, and is currently on CNN-owned HLN network, streamed on digital platforms by FilmRise, and distributed to television outlets around the world.
The Frankfurt Kurnit team advising Medstar was led by Entertainment Group Counsel Richard Hofstetter and Corporate & Finance Group Counsel Mara P. Canner “Our longstanding experience representing film and television production and distribution clients, and with the sale of many television production companies and libraries, made us the perfect firm to advise Medstar in the sale of this iconic franchise,” said Hofstetter.

Frankfurt Kurnit Partners with the Entertainment Software Rating Board’s Privacy Certified Program
Frankfurt Kurnit is pleased to announce that its Interactive Entertainment and Data Strategy, Privacy & Security Groups are partnering with the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) to enhance cooperation between ESRB’s Privacy Certified program and the firm. ESRB Privacy Certified assists companies in the video game and toy industries in implementing and maintaining lawful, transparent, and responsible data collection and privacy policies, as well as practices for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information and data. In 2001, the Federal Trade Commission approved ESRB Privacy Certified to serve as one of six Safe Harbor programs, overseeing its members’ compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
