FTC Issues Revised Endorsement Guides
After a lengthy and closely-watched review process, the Federal Trade Commission recently issued revisions to its "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising" ("the Guides"). Last updated about thirty years ago, the revised Guides include important changes that will have significant impact on many widely-used advertising practices. The revisions include guidance on a number of issues, including using endorsements to promote non-typical product performance, celebrity endorsements, expert endorsements, and endorsements in new forms of media.
