The settlement requires GM to improve its privacy policies and procedures, and its terms carry compliance implications extending beyond the automotive industry. Goldberg described GM’s actions as “a perfect storm of violations,” noting that they resulted in violations of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California’s Unfair Competition Law, and the False Advertising Law.
