Greenwashing in the Crosshairs: Regulators Around the Globe Take Aim
Advertising Partner Jeffrey A. Greenbaum is quoted in the article, "Greenwashing in the Crosshairs: Regulators Around the Globe Take Aim" published by AdWeek. The article discusses the FTC's updated Green Guides guidance which discourages brands from misleading consumers through false advertising. The U.S. joins the EU and U.K. in regulating green claims and increasing scrutiny. Jeff is quoted saying, "The Green Guides review will highlight certain issues of concern in the marketplace, and that may lead consumers to bring claims under state law based on those issues.”
Jeff notes, "Laws pertaining to greenwashing have an ultimate agenda to discourage advertisers from marketing misleading claims. While the goals for the EU’s Green Claims Directive and the FTC’s Green Guides may align, anyone marketing across borders will have to consider different laws in different countries.”
