Variety’s Dealmakers Impact Report 2022: Tough Times Take Tough Negotiators
Entertainment Partners Marcie Cleary and Andrew Hurwitz are included in Variety’s Dealmakers Impact Report 2022. Andrew repped Rob Siegel as creator-showrunner for Hulu’s “Pam & Tommy” and “Welcome to Chippendales,” and his 20th Tele-vision overall deal at midyear. His other active this year include James Gunn writing-directing HBO Max’s “Peacemaker,” WEP auctioning Voltron toy property rights to Amazon for features and Dan Futterman scripting “The Bruce Lee Story,” directed by Ang Lee. Marcie negotiated a seven-figure deal in February for Mandii B and Bridget Kelly’s podcast “See, the Thing Is” with Gumball. She advised ThreeFourTwo Prods. for basketballers J.J. Redick and Tommy Alter’s podcast at Wondery, and also Warner Music’s podcaster Interval Presents for a multiyear iHeart Media distribution deal.
Podcasts as IP: Celebrities and athletes still get big paydays for podcasts, “but with the current shift in the economy we have seen distributors adjust their focus to podcasts that can serve as underlying IP for film and TV series” adaptations, Marcie says.

Law360 mentions Tyler Maulsby, Tricia Legittino, Kristen Niven and John Harris as "Legal Lions" for their successful representation of former Gibson Dunn & Crutcher partner Mark A. Perry. A California judge ruled that the firm must pay the well-known appellate attorney $141,000 in legal fees after losing their legal battle over his move to Weil Gotshal & Manges. Gibson Dunn already who owes approximately $585,000 to Mr. Perry, as the judge also affirmed an arbitrator's decision that he did not resign but retired, and was entitled to his retirement benefits.
