Frankfurt Kurnit Adds Privacy & Data Security Partner Rick Borden
Rick Borden has joined Frankfurt Kurnit as a partner in its Privacy & Data Security Group. Mr. Borden, who will be based in the firm’s New York office, joins Frankfurt Kurnit from Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
“Rick is that rare privacy and data security lawyer who has also served as a Chief Privacy Officer,” said Daniel Goldberg, Chair of the Frankfurt Kurnit Privacy & Data Security Group. “His ability to understand data flows, operations, information technology and the law will make him an extremely valuable advisor to our clients.”
Mr. Borden represents FinTech, InsurTech, cloud computing and other tech-forward companies on technology transactions and in regulatory disputes. He has handled high profile investigations before the New York State Department of Financial Services and other agencies.
A well-known thought leader in data governance, cloud computing, SaaS, and the Internet of Things, Mr. Borden speaks and writes about these topics regularly and was named a JD Supra Readers' Choice Awards Top Author for cybersecurity. He has taught courses on information governance, cyber warfare and cybersecurity at the University of Connecticut School of Law, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and Rutgers Law School. He serves on the Board of Editors of the Journal of Law and Cyber Warfare and is a Senior Advisor to the RANE Networks.

Frankfurt Kurnit Advises Medstar in Sale of Forensic Files True Crime Television Catalog
Content Partners, LLC, a leading independent owner of major studio-distributed films and television shows, has acquired from Medstar Television 400 Forensic Files episodes, and international distribution rights to Forensic Files II. Created by Paul Dowling, the President and CEO of Frankfurt Kurnit client Medstar Television, Forensic Files is a pioneer of true crime television. The series aired from 1996—2011 on TLC, and is currently on CNN-owned HLN network, streamed on digital platforms by FilmRise, and distributed to television outlets around the world. Read more.

Frankfurt Kurnit Client Northwell Health Gets Big Win in Battle with NYU Langone Health System
In a battle between two of the largest healthcare systems in the New York metropolitan area, a New York federal court on March 1st handed an early win to Frankfurt Kurnit client Northwell Health. NYU Langone Health System (“NYU Langone”) sued Northwell Health alleging false advertising and trade dress infringement (i.e., infringement of the overall design and appearance of NYU Langone’s advertisements)—under state and federal law.
