Craig B. Whitney Joins Frankfurt Kurnit as Litigation and Intellectual Property Partner
April 13, 2015 New York, N.Y. - Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, PC has added Craig B. Whitney as a partner in the firm’s Litigation and Intellectual Property Groups. Mr. Whitney joined the firm today.
“Craig Whitney is a rising star in the IP Litigation world and a perfect fit for our IP Litigation team,” said Frankfurt Kurnit Litigation Group Chair Edward H. Rosenthal. “We are thrilled that he is joining us.”
With a practice focused on litigating copyright, trademark and trade secret disputes, Mr. Whitney represents corporate and individual clients in the media, technology, publishing, apparel, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, financial, art and design industries. He also counsels clients on intellectual property and licensing matters and represents clients prosecuting domestic and foreign trademarks.
Mr. Whitney’s representative work includes a landmark victory clarifying copyright fair use and parody on behalf of musicians Don Henley, Mike Campbell and Danny Kortchmar (Henley v. Devore (C.D. Cal.)); a defense win dismissing copyright infringement claims brought by a putative class of attorneys against LexisNexis (Edward L. White, P.C. v. West Publishing Corp. and Reed Elsevier Inc. (S.D.N.Y)); a favorable outcome for the high-end beauty products company Carol’s Daughter in a trademark and trade dress action against a manufacturer of knock-off products (Carol’s Daughter Holdings, Inc. v. Carol’s Express LLC (S.D.N.Y.)); a district and appellate court decision dismissing all claims by a proposed class against an international bank, for alleged violations of, among other things, the Federal False Marking Act, RICO and the CAN-SPAM Act (Project Honey Pot et al v. Chernuk et al. (E.D. Va. and 4th Cir.)); and counseling prominent art museums and galleries on domestic and international copyright issues.
Mr. Whitney received his B.S. from Cornell University and his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Stephen V. Wilson in the United States District Court of the Central District of California. He is admitted to practice in New York and California.
